RIAN

I woke with Layla nestled against my chest, and immediately my worries rushed in. This was her first time, and it was with me, a minotaur man. The fear that I'd hurt her slammed into me, even though I'd felt her pleasure as we made love, not once but twice.

But she smiled up at me, happier than I'd ever seen her, and I knew at once that I hadn't hurt her at all. My chest unwound as I breathed out a sigh of relief.

"Good morning, my grumpy bull," she said. "I'm so glad to be with you in this dark time."

We kissed, fingers twining. I nuzzled her neck, murmuring, "I hope you slept well last night."

"I slept perfectly," she said, kissing the tip of my nose.

"And you're not... sore, are you?"

"Not at all, so relax those worried brows." Layla reached up to press her fingers against my forehead, kneading at my knotted muscles. "I feel absolutely amazing. I wish I could say the same about how I smell, so I think I should take a shower, if...?"

"Oh, right!" I felt embarrassed as I sprang out of bed and pulled on a pair of grey sweatpants from my dresser. "I'll show you the bathroom. And get your clothes washed up, and—"

As if on cue, there was a knock on the door. I opened it a crack and found my Aunt Shelby standing in the hallway, a wry smile on her face, a few sets of women's clothing folded in her hands. "I thought Layla might need these."

"Thank you." I took them from her, and she reached out to place a tray of food on top of the folded clothes. "And thank you for breakfast, as well."

"You're welcome." She winked at me. "Let me know if you need anything else. I'll just be... out in the garden."

I stammered my thanks again and shut the door, feeling like a teenage boy. Leave it to Aunt Shelby to slyly imply that Layla and I were going at it like bunnies in here.

Of course, I couldn't deny that I was insanely attracted to Layla. The second I heard the water in the shower turn on I grew aroused. Just thinking of her in there, warmth sluicing down her skin, made me desperately erect. I had to take myself to hand, and quickly, before she got dressed and came out—wearing a delectable sundress that didn't make it any easier to calm myself down.

"I need to shower too," I told her gruffly, dropping a kiss on the top of her honey blonde head. "I'll be back."
